Why do you need Teeth Whitening?

If you have stained or discoloured teeth, teeth whitening could be an excellent solution for you. Staining of teeth can be caused by various factors.  While some relate to your lifestyle, others are a result of inherent faults in your teeth.

  • Smoking
  • Antibiotics
  • Regularly drinking red wine, coffee, tea and cola
  • Dark coloured food (tomato-based sauces)
  • Sugary and acidic foods and drinks
  • Ageing and genetic conditions
  • Tooth wear and tear
  • Tooth malformations
  • Poor oral hygiene

Methods for Teeth Whitening

There are two methods for Teeth Whitening. You can choose between In-Office or Take-home techniques.

Take-Home Whitening

What’s the take home whitening procedure?

  • The dentist first takes impressions (moulds) of your upper and lower teeth to fabricate customised bleaching trays which fit your mouth perfectly and comfortably.
  • Then you will be provided with a Whitening Gel and shown how to apply and use it correctly.
  • You will be advised to wear the gel-loaded trays for one hour a day for two weeks.

A combination of ZOOM! In-Office Teeth Whitening and Take-Home Teeth Whitening are what we encourage to achieve the best long-term results.

Whitening will change the colour of your teeth but will not change the colour of your fillings.  Therefore you may find it necessary to replace the old filling with new ones that better match the colour of your new brighter, whiter teeth.

How long does Teeth Whitening last?

The results of teeth whitening can vary depending on your individual habits and maintenance. Professional teeth whitening can generally last between 6 months to 12 months with proper care and maintenance. It also depends on the teeth whitening treatment you choose and your lifestyle habits. We recommend in-chair whitening as its results will likely last longer than a take-home whitening kit. At our dental clinic, we use the latest and most effective whitening solutions to ensure that your teeth remain whiter for the longest possible time.

Teeth Whitening aftercare

To get the most out of your teeth whitening treatment and achieve the best results possible, we recommend following these tips as closely as you can:

  • Avoid consuming staining substances
For the first 48 hours after the procedure, we advise avoiding foods and beverages that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, tea, red wine, berries, and coloured sauces.
  • Avoid smoking
Tobacco products can lead to discolouration and reduce the effectiveness of teeth whitening. It’s best to avoid smoking or using any tobacco products after the treatment.
  • Maintain your oral hygiene
Brush your teeth twice a day with whitening toothpaste to remove surface stains and maintain the brightness of your teeth. Don’t forget to floss daily to remove plaque.
  • Rinse your mouth
If you consume beverages or foods known to stain teeth, rinse your mouth with water after to minimise the contact and potential staining.
  • Limit acidic food
Reduce consumption of highly acidic foods, as they can weaken tooth enamel.
  • Hydrate
Drink water to keep your mouth hydrated and reduce the risk of staining your teeth.

How much does Teeth Whitening cost in Melton?

The cost of teeth whitening depends on your needs, any additional treatments required before whitening and the type of whitening treatment. After an assessment of your teeth, our dentists will be able to tell you the exact cost of treatment. We also offer flexible payment options, allowing you the convenience of paying for your dental treatment over a period of time.
