Dentures

Conventional dentures are removable and can be supported by surrounding soft tissues, teeth or Dental Implants.

It is beneficial to replace missing teeth for the following reasons:

  • Aesthetic and facial appearance- replacing missing teeth provides support to the lips and cheeks and corrects the collapsed and sagging appearance which occurs when teeth are not replaced.
  • Mastication- chewing ability is improved by replacing missing teeth.
  • Phonetics- replacing missing front teeth improves the pronunciation of words.
  • Self-Esteem- patients feel better about themselves when they don’t have any missing teeth.

Types of Dentures in Melton:

Complete (Full) Dentures

These are worn by patients who are missing all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaws

Partial Dentures

These are worn by patients who are missing some of their teeth in the upper or lower jaws. Partial Dentures are typically held in place by metal clasps that fit around the anchored teeth. They can be constructed from Acrylic or Cast Metal (Vitallium)

Acrylic Partial Dentures

These are made of Acrylic or plastic material and flexible wire clasps. They are a more economical form of Partial Denture and they are usually used as transitional or temporary dentures. It is easy to add and modify these dentures if another tooth is lost.

Cast Metal (Vitallium) Dentures

These dentures are made of a metal framework, which accurately rests on and braces the natural dentition and surrounding soft tissues. They are rigid, thin and more comfortable to wear. Vitallium Dentures are considered to be a durable and permanent denture.

Implant-Supported Dentures

This is a type of overdenture that is supported by and attached to implants. It is used when a person does not have any teeth in the jaw but has sufficient bone in the jaw to support the implants. They are commonly made in the lower jaw because regular Complete (Full) Dentures tend to be less stable there.
