Teeth Whitening

Staining of teeth can be caused by various factors.  While some relate to your lifestyle, others are a result of inherent faults in your teeth.

  • smoking
  • antibiotics
  • red wine
  • aging
  • coffee/tea
  • tooth malformations
  • food dyes
  • wear and tear

There are two methods for Tooth Whitening.  Choose between In-Office or Take-home techniques.

In-Office ZOOM! Tooth Whitening:

This is probably the most popular chair side Whitening system among dentists.  A scientifically advanced procedure, it is not only safe, effective, fast and simple but it’s also affordable!

The ZOOM! In-Office Whitening System will make your teeth dramatically whiter in less than an hour.

The procedure is simple.  It begins with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed.

Your dentist will then apply a Whitening Gel, which when used with a special light will be activated and gently penetrate your teeth to break up stains and discolouration.

Depending on how discoloured your teeth are patient preparation and procedure may take from 1 hour to and hour and 20 minutes.

Take-Home Whitening:

This process can be performed anywhere, not just at home.

The dentist first takes impressions (moulds) of your upper and lower teeth to fabricate customised bleaching trays which fit your mouth perfectly and comfortably.  Then you will be provided with a Whitening Gel and shown how to apply and use it correctly.

We usually advise wearing the Gel-loaded trays for one hour a day for two weeks.

A combination of ZOOM! In-Office Tooth Whitening and Take-Home Tooth Whitening is what we encourage to achieve the best long term results.

Whitening will change the colour of your teeth but will not change the colour of your fillings.  Therefore you may find it necessary to replace old filling with new ones that better match the colour of your new brighter, whiter teeth.
