Did you know that missing teeth, when left untreated, could lead to many health issues? This includes the deterioration...
Missing teeth can lead to a number of oral health issues if left ignored over a long period of time. Fortunately, there are a range of advanced dental treatments for patients to choose from, one popular choice being implant retained dentures. Here’s what you need to know about this treatment before making your decision:
Implant retained dentures, also known as “overdentures” are a set of artificial teeth held securely by implants placed in your upper and/or lower jaw. Many patients find conventional dentures cumbersome to wear since they keep slipping- the use of implants help address this problem! Using implants to secure your dentures in place means your overdentures won’t move around in your mouth.
Your jawbone needs stimulation. Without this (i.e. if you have missing teeth that are left unseen to), your jawbone will deteriorate over time. This will give your face a sunken look and you will also not have enough bone left for dental implants, making this a more complicated procedure if you ever opt for it. Using implant retained dentures from the get-go means that your jawbone remains stimulated.
Using dentures secured in place with implants is significantly more comfortable since it makes daily functions like eating and chewing far easier, and also reduces gum irritation in the process too! By being able to chew your food more thoroughly, this means that you now have improved digestion as well.
Your conventional dentures usually require adhesive to be kept in place. This process can get messy and may not always be as efficient as desired. Since secured with implants, you no longer have to worry about denture adhesives.
